He came down from Montana It was 1884 He was feelin’ a little restless So he walked right out his door

He rode east and west Then north and south Lookin’ for a place to arrive He was back in the Sweetgrass Hills In 1885

Montana gets beneath your skin And flows within your blood It’s the lakes, mountains and the streams A way of life that we all love

We’ll help our neighbor raise his barn Or tip our hats and let ‘em be There ain’t no place in the USA Like the Big Sky Country The Big Sky Country

She came down from Montana It was 1945 That big ole war was finally over So she went searchin’ for her life

She went east and west Then north and south Found places she could pick But she was back in the Rattlesnake By 1946

I left the Flathead for L.A. It was back in ‘69 Vietnam and then Watergate It was one hell of a time

I’ve been gone since then But come back when I can You can take the boy from home But the home Stays in the man
